A producer from 20/20 contacted me about trends in eating disorders--they want to do a story about e.d.'s being "contagious" among friends, relatives. Did you develop your e.d. after a friend or relative did? Or, did someone follow you? Here's the link, if you'd like to share your story on camera (please let them know how you found the link):

I'll have preliminary survey results soon!

I 'contracted' my eating disorder from a best friend years ago. She's long gone but the food issues are here to stay.
I miss your writing!
nope - absolutely not. i am the only one of my family/friends that I know of who has had an ed. i do believe, however, that behaviors can be passed on between two friends or family members who already have eds or a predisposition for eds (genetics, environment, etc.). and, from my experience in treatment, people can get ideas about how to do their eds "better" by learning behaviors from others with eds. i absolutely do not believe that eds are contagious. BUT, the media are very powerful. hmmm, you have got me thinking...
