Untitled

In a Native American parable, the Creator amasses his animals and offers the following:

"I want to hide something from my human children until they are ready for it. . . . It is the realization that they create their own reality."

"Give it to me. I'll fly it to the moon," says the Eagle.

"No," says he Creator. "One day soon they will go there and find it."

"How about the bottom of the ocean?" asks the Salmon.

"No," says the Creator. "They will find it there, too."

"I will bury it in the great plains," says the Buffalo.

"They will soon dig and find it there," says the Creator.

"Then put it inside of them," says wise Grandmother Mole.

"Done," says the Creator. "It is the last place they will look."

I guess it's similar to us not being able to change what happens to us, but our reactions and perceptions of it. Something like that?

I want to share my experience last night with everyone. I was at a bar with a guy I'm dating and his guys and I was "scoping out" girls for them. I found a cute one in a black dress and tried to point her out. Both of the guys were like, "that girl?" "she's kinda big" and laughed. The girl was normal size, maybe 130 and really pretty i thought, but I hadn't even noted her weight till they responded to me. What they sad just made me sick. I didn't think guys were really like that. That just reinforces that it was okay yesterday that I ate only 400 calories just to save room for booze calories.

Oh, Beth, that is NOT a reason to eat only 400 calories! In my opinion, though, it may be a reason to look for a different boyfriend! Not all men are like that, you know.

And then there is the fact (and I am well aware that this is not an easy place to get to) that you need to find a place of self-acceptance, from where what other people think and say really doesn't matter that much anymore. Of course, no one is immune to others' comments, but if you are able to work on your own self-confidence and build it up from the inside out, such a comment won't be able to sway you near as much anymore. Rather, it'll just make you realize how shallow it is to say such a thing, and you might think twice about the people you're choosing to surround yourself with.

with care,
