What If?

From the talented Gavin DeGraw:
I don't want to be
Anything other than what I've been trying to be lately
All I have to do
Is think of me and I have peace of mind
I'm tired of looking 'round rooms
Wondering what I've got to do
Or who I'm supposed to be
I don't want to be anything other than me
I wonder what would happen to the incidence of eating disorders if we could all grab hold of this. . . .

I just wanted to post and say that I love Gavin Degraw :) And I think we would all benefit from living that lyric.

Also a Gavin fan.
If we all lived by that lyric, the diet industry would go under. And that would be a good thing!

I'm sure the rate of ED's would go down, as well as general dissatisfaction with ourselves (bodies, minds, etc). However, as you know, eating disorders are about a lot more than just how one looks. I know my eating disorder was more about emotion regulation and feeling numb than about being skinny, especially in the later stages as I became more self-aware.
Sorry to preach to the choir and all.
I really do like those lyrics, more people should take them to hart

It would be very empowering in a lot of ways. I wish all our sicknesses of the brain could be healed by listening to music. :)

I write for a beauty blog on the side and recently wrote a similarly themed post about ignoring what the "beauty" industry says and finding your own ideal to strive for.
I have never been happier than the day I kicked my scale out and decided to base my self-worth on my happiness and how I feel. It wasn't easy, but I am finally comfortable in my own skin, no matter how much of it there is.
It would be lovely if we could all help one another find that balance in ourselves instead of worrying about how we appear.
I'm giving a presentation to a group of young women and have been looking for something to offset the message I know they hear every day about looks and self-worth. I think this is definitely something they can relate to...Thank you
