Community

So, this is it—my 101st post! I still plan on posting regularly (aiming for twice a week), though will now turn more of my attention back to my clinical work, teaching, and getting this book proposal accepted.

For now, I’ve compiled (a la Barbara’s idea) a list of the blogs I know that link to me. Apologies if I got any of the addresses wrong—please feel free to correct or redirect in the comments section. Also, if you link to me but I don’t know it, please feel free to add your site. Thank you all for sending readers my way. Everyone else—check out these amazing blogs and the women who write them!

Now I have more blogs to read and use as a procrastination tool.

Thanks.

hi, i just started writing a blog and came across yours while i was looking for something similar. i'm trying to write it mainly as an outlet for my own body-image preoccupation but with a little of the requisite social commentary thrown in. it's at: begoodbegood.blogspot.com

thanks for the list of links! cool. but how come so many of them are about weight loss and dieting? i guess it's more evidence in favor of Every Woman Having an Eating Disorder. but i find it triggering too, and counter to the idea of self-acceptance. but then again, i guess being shielded from other people's experiences, e.g. blogs about body dissatisfaction and dieting, isn't necessarily any better than being exposed to those experiences.
i don't know; it just surprised me that such a large majority of them were about weight loss.

elissa--I hope that bogging is helpful to you. Thanks for stopping by. . .

anon--most of them are about dieting/weightloss b/c these are the folks who (I'm guessing) find my writing of interest. Many bloggers (like Elissa above) may come across my site by searching for weight-loss or dieting-related work.

You raise an interesting point that some sites (pro-ana/dieting/etc.) can be triggering for some. For you and for others, it's helpful to be aware of when this is happening and to limit your exposure to material you think you can tolerate--just b/c it's on the web doesn't mean you have to read it.

Thanks for your comment. . .

Dr Stacey- Your link is in my "favorites" since I still feel self-conscious about having it in my links.
I wonder how "anonymous" would feel about my blog, as I have been "clean" for 15 years now, butnever forget from whence I came... http://www.peenapotty.blogspot.com blog title: Chronicles of Blunderview.

Aww, thanks Dr. Stacey, for including me in the list.

And while mine is not a diet and weight loss blog, you know that I've struggled with these issues for 39 years.

I'm happy to report, that the diet pills are long gone now, even with the recent stressful situation, and whilst I maintain a fairly stringent eating pattern, I don't feel like I'm denying myself anything, and best of all, I'm happy. (was that the longest run on sentence ever?!)

Thank you for being out here. You have been a great source of support for me, and I greatly appreciate it!

joyce--you make a good point abt the stigma associated with these topics. That's part of what I'm trying to address with the "every woman" concept. Thanks for pointing folks your way. . .

stephanie--from my comments, I'm sure you know I enjoy reading your site. And I am so, so, so happy the pills are gone! (run-on sentences encouraged!)
