Have you read Tracey Gold's book, "Room to Grow?" I enjoyed it, but I am also a HUGE Growing Pains fan. I've always wanted to read "Wasted" but can't find it. I must search harder.

AS--you'd probably want to check with a medical professional for specifics, but I know that your metabolism increases around that time, which means you require more food! Also, cravings (especially for salty foods) may be your body's attempt at restoring electrolyte/fluid balances. That said, it's important to understand that the fuel requirements are different at diff. times of the month and to honor your appetite.

What probably happens for you and others is that there is an increased appetite (for physiological and possibly, psychological reasons), you try to "be good," and then this backfires with a binge. You might then handle the binge by restricting (maybe when it's easier, after your cycle), which can then build up, leading to more binges (that you may allow during pms-time). In short, it's a binge-restriction cycle. The way to break it? Don't restrict yourself after your period. Continue to eat normally and recognize that your cravings will increase at certain times.

I think it's a bit harsh to say that every woman has an eating disorder but i don't think i know one woman who hasn't convinced herself she was overweight at some point.
